”A major musical experience”

Kultur & Nöje 2013-02-18

I do not know how far into his tour accordeonist Lelo Nika and his string quartet TAJJ has reached, but I would like to send following decree to the next city: do not fail to see them!
Yesterday night only fifty or so people took the chance to have a major musical experience. Why so small an audience? Maybe people hasn´t been informed enough, or different arrangements collided. Whatever the reason, it is a shame.

Lelo Nika has his roots in Serbia, but lives in Malmö. He met the string orchestra containing 4 skilled women playing violins, viola and cello, together with a bassplayer and a cimbalonplayer, in Serbia.
It is a perfect match to hear them together, and just as nice to see their suttle communication through eyes, glances, thumbs up and thus in a charming way letting the audience feel full confidence.
Nobody can doubt that Lelo Nika is one of the foremost accordeonists in the world, and by letting every musician on stage  fully blossom  during the night he enhances the joy.
First of all he introduces the string quartet and then walks off stage. Well back on stage again a thoughtful tango is presented which gives a hint of the tempo and temperament which will soon be played, crossing borders and giving the audience art music as well as jazz and classical music. Romanian folk music is about to be mixed with swedish folk and so called world music.
It doesn´t take long before the string quartet under the lead of the radiant Aleksandra Krcemar Culibrks trips along off stage and leaves the three men.
George Mihalache in his black suite plays the cimbalon – one of the world´s most obstinate sounding string instruments – in a way that makes all the body´s endorphines kick-start all your senses.
All the sudden here we have three musical riders who won´t let any boundaries hinder them. Together again the music becomes beautiful, mischievous, waltz, polska, swedish wood-spirit atmosphere, and then tango again.
The whole concert leaves the impression of deepest pleasure and musical togetherness at its highest level.
When everything is the most alive and vibrant, I suddenly think:  I could die like this. With this music around me. How easy, how simple. And stylishly be carried out afterwards knowing I´m already half ways to heaven!
